Pienza once the long residence of pope Pius II Enea Piccolomini, it was rebuilt by request of the Pontiff, It’s an perfect example of renaissance architecture and part of the World Heritage of UNESCO since 1996: here you will fined “La Terrazza del Chiostro”, a restaurant located in an ex-convent of the 15th century.

Once a monastery of Saint Francis, the convent has been through the the most diverse events: the first mass officiated by Pope Piccolomini; it was struck by violent raids and looting, during the “War of Siena”.

The monks lived here till the last years of the 18th century, they enriched the architecture with wide spaces full of charm and mystical atmosphere despite the troubled fate reserved for them. It‘s a place deeply steeped in the history of Pienza.
